  • Why You Feel Both Numb and Anxious—and What Your Body Might Be Telling You – Understanding Your Nervous System

Have you ever found yourself frozen in bed, overwhelmed by the day ahead—yet somehow vibrating with a strange inner urgency?
Like your body is saying “go!” but your spirit is whispering “I can’t…”

That contradiction isn’t just emotional. It’s somatic. And if you’ve felt it, you’re not alone.

Many of us carry nervous systems shaped by years of subtle stress, chronic overextension, or trauma that taught us to move fast but also shut down when it becomes too much.

This creates what I call a nervous system mismatch—where you’re flipping between activation (flight) and collapse (freeze) without feeling fully safe in either.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

  • You wake up with your heart racing, but your limbs feel heavy
  • You want to take action, but your brain fog says “no”
  • You scroll endlessly, pacing internally, while your body stays still
  • You try to calm down—but still feel wired and restless underneath

This isn’t laziness, procrastination, or lack of motivation.
It’s a biological response. And once you start seeing it that way, compassion rushes in.

Why You Can’t “Mindset” Your Way Out

Modern culture tells us to think positiveget motivated, or just do it. But if your nervous system is stuck in a mixed loop—part shutdown, part overdrive—these tools often miss the mark.

You don’t need more mindset.
You need a body map—a way to understand how your unique nervous system moves through the world.

Every Nervous System Has a Pattern

Over the years, I’ve noticed that most people tend to fall into certain regulation patterns.
Some burn fast and bright, craving deep rest (🔥 Fire-Starters).
Others freeze under stress, needing gentle reawakening (💧 Deep-Water Dreamers).
Some jump from urgency to depletion, needing rhythm and pacing (⚡ Lightning Bolts).
And others feel steady, but need nourishment to sustain balance (🌱 Rooted Earth Keepers).

Knowing your type isn’t a label—it’s a guidepost. It helps you choose tools that actually fit your body’s language, not just your brain’s.

Want to Discover Yours?

If this speaks to you, I created a short Nervous System Nourishment Quiz based on these patterns.
It’s gentle, validating, and designed to help you understand how you regulate—and what your system might be needing right now.

(And yes—just like you, your pattern can change. That’s the beauty of living systems.)

Your Next Step Is Not More Effort—It’s More Listening

You don’t have to fix your nervous system. You just have to understand it.
That begins with honoring what’s already happening inside you—and learning to meet it with rhythm, ritual, and care.

Want help finding your rhythm? Start with your type. 🌿
